‘I’ve had enough of smoked fish for now,’ grumbles the bailiff of a small Dutch town. ‘Bring me some apples to finish the meal.’ His servant looks worried. ‘We have no more apples, sir. The De Witt family has cut peat near our lands, and now the water level in our orchards is too high.’ The bailiff’s face creases into a frown. ‘I’ll go to the Count of Holland and file a complaint. The Count will surely take my side.’ The servant bows and leaves. He knows the Count has just transferred all water-related decisions to a new local court. And the judge in charge there is married to De Witt’s sister…

Bailiff of Boskoop is a strategy game set in the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern period in Rijnland, part of the County of Holland in present-day Netherlands. 2–5 players take on the role of local families. Family members can claim land. Some rise to influential figures, such as village founder, judge, or local duck trader. The family with the most land at the end of the game wins. A game lasts 150–240 minutes.
