Bread and Beer is a strategic game for 2 players. By playing cards you harvest resources, improve your village and sell beer and bread.
Each card can be used in three different ways. Slide the card above the game board for a harvest, under the game board for an expansion of the village or discard the card to sell beer and bread. The way you get cards depends on the round.
During a strong year you pass cards back and forth, each time choosing a card to play. During a lean year you have to make do with the cards you are dealt, although you are allowed to exchange limited cards with the trading card field. Whoever has produced the most beer or bread after six rounds wins.
But there is a small catch. What you produced the least amount of will determine your final score. So you lose if you have invested heavily in bread, while your beer production has remained very limited.
As a strategic game for two players, Bread and Beer is a real challenge! The game is full of player interaction. Each round you have to make decisive choices that have direct consequences for the next round.
Moreover, Bread and Beer is beautifully illustrated by Michael Menzel (The Legends of Andor, The Adventures of Robin Hood). Highly recommended for anyone looking for a big game in a small box!
